This was the quickest trip I have ever taken...on Thursday I hopped on an airplane bound for Washington DC. My friend, Donetta had asked me to join her for a tour of the White House, hosted by her nephew Josh.
I arrived Thursday afternoon and Guy Shultz picked me up at the airport. I visited their home in Manasses and had a wonderful dinner with them...then met Jacque and Donetta for a trip back to Arlington, where Jacque lives.
Friday morning we were up bright and early. We visited the Capital Building, then a couple of museum at the Smithsonian and walked and walked. I should have taken a picture of our new friend. You see we were asking how to get into the Capital Building, and a young man popped up and wanted to join us. I think he was sweet on Jacque, and so he spent the entire day looking at the Hope Diamond, various crystals, gems, and minerals, and a few paintings as well, all with us...kind of weird right.... unless you were going to ask the girl out... but alas no...less I digress further I will carry on.
We met Josh and his wife at the White House all set for our tour. We made sure that we didn't have any sharp items with us, no makeup, no purses, no weapons, or fireworks (the list of don't brings went on and on, but we only snuck in one tube of lipstick...I will be on a new terrorist list for that). I think we looked pretty spiffy. We toured the White House and it was just beautiful...I wish I could decorate like Michelle. I wonder if she did any of it herself, or if she had help. There were so many lovely trees. I loved the White Chocolate Model of the White House... and the National Christmas tree was grand...I didn't know it was a living tree. Here is a picture looking in the window of the White House looking at one of the trees. This picture of the National Tree has the White House in the background. These trees are in the West Ballroom, and there was the largest Creche I had ever seen in the East Ballroom, I was glad to see a Christ Centered Christmas in the White House. After the tour, we went to a wonderful dinner, it was at Old Ebbott's, across from the White House.
After we returned home, the news report said that it was going to snow...buckets of it, so Jacque took us to the airport see if we could leave a day early. I was able to get on a plane, thank you United, Donetta is still in Washington, perhaps she will stay forever...at least she can live with her daugther, Jacque! Thanks all for a perfect 24 hours in Washington. I had a wonderful day.
